Wardrobe Staple: Little Black Dress

If there is one item that should be in every women's closet that would be the little black dress(LBD).  The LBD is your go to dress for any last minute dates, events, etc.  The great thing about going out to shop for one is that they virtually come in every shape, size, and style.  You can find one with sparkles, lace, glam, edginess, form fitted, ruching, etc.

That's the great thing about the LBD is that it is a blank canvas that can be worn so many different ways that they can be dressed up or down and you really have your options open when it comes to accessories.  You can choose to have a pop of color such as red heels and clutch or throw in some metallics in your jewelry and heels.  The one thing to accessorizing your little black dress is to not overdo it.  Subtlety is the key here.  You don't want to look like a hot mess by putting on silver heels, bracelets, necklace, earrings, and a clutch.  A good motto to keep in your head is, "Less is more."  Victoria Beckham is a good go to for celebrity inspiration when it comes to the LBD.  She can commonly be seen wearing one and she always looks so chic.

The following is just a very small sampling of what is out there in each price range.  When shopping for an LBD you want to find something that you feel comfortable and confident in.  This is a dress that will be worn over and over again and you want to be excited for the next time you need to reach for it and put it on.

The bodycon style is definitely a sexier look and not all women would be comfortable in it.  It's very form fitting and made to hug all of your curves.  With that being said this particular dress from Forever 21 also has lace detailing and side cutouts.  With the lace overlaying on the cutouts it gives you the option of trying the cutout style without completely showing off your mid section.  This gives women the ability of a little more sexiness but still able to feel comfortable and like they are not completely exposed.

The pleather addition to this fit and flare dress from Forever 21 adds an edgy vibe to an otherwise girly style.  It could be dressed up with some heels and a clutch or dressed down with a pair of combat boots and a denim jacket.

The asymmetrical hem on this dress from Body Central is definitely a bold statement when it comes to the LBD.  In order to wear this dress a woman needs to feel confident and beautiful in what she is wearing.

Midi dresses are great because they are a slightly longer length than most LBD's that typically come above the knee.  Not all women feel comfortable showing off their legs and this gives you the ability to show off some leg but not feel completely exposed and uncomfortable.  The cap sleeve addition gives this dress a modest sexiness.

The Victoria's Secret shift dress is a great style because it can easily be worn from the office to a date.  This particular dress has an asymmetrical neckline that is not too low cut with a length cut at the knees.  Both make this dress sexy without being too revealing.  The shape on this dress will look great on most body types.

This lacy dress from bebe just exudes girliness in the a-line fit that just makes you want to twirl your skirt.  The touches of lace add elegance to this dress and can make anyone feel beautiful while wearing it.

Tadashi Shoji

Yesterday, February 6, there were thirteen different shows to kick off this years Fall Fashion Week Event including Nicholas K, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Raoul, Richard Chai, Creatures of the Wind, Jay Godfrey, Tadashi Shoji, Desigual, Tome, Marissa Webb, Todd Snyder, Aron Rose, and Mark and Estel.  Fashion Week Schedule Tadashi Shoji had his show at Lincoln Center.  Shoji is known for his gorgeous red carpet and evening gowns.  His designs have been worn most notably by Kate Beckinsale, Katy Perry, Helen Mirren, and Octavia Spencer.  His show this year was no exception to the gorgeous gowns including the following berry velvet sheath dress.  Although the new fashions aren't yet for sale, comparing to other Shoji dresses, my guess is this dress will run you $350+

Although this dress is black it has a similar silhouette to the Tadashi Shoji dress.  It's sleeveless and has a sweetheart neckline with mesh detailing.  It can also be found at Forever 21 for a fraction of the price of the Shoji dress and is definitely more affordable for most people.

This dress which also comes from Forever 21 has the velvet look and color similar to the Shoji dress with a slightly different silhouette.  While not all women can pull off the sheath dress this fit and flare style gives the look of the Shoji dress but gives another option for women to choose from.

This dress from Target is from the Tevolio bridesmaid collection and is a combination of the top two dresses.  It is a sleeveless dress with a sweetheart neckline and mesh detailing.  It's also a more form fitting fit and flare silhouette.

Fall 2014 Fashion Week

It's that time of year again when designers, models, and all around fashionable people flock to New York for Fashion Week.  This year is no different and the week long event, which runs February 6-13, got kicked off today with many designers already showing their new fall collections.  If you are like me and unfortunately not able to attend the event you have the ability to live stream the shows right off the website.  Fashion week, whether it be spring or fall, is always a great way to get ideas for the seasons top trends straight from the high end designers so that you can then recreate the looks on your own budget.  With only being a few hours in, the top trends are already showing their faces.

Wild Wild West
Looks like a lot of designers will be bringing out what is being referred to as cowboy chic.  Fringe, riding boots, and blanket coats will all be things to look out for.

Cropped Pants
While spring had us looking at the 90's inspired cropped tops, fall is moving down the body and bringing the hem up on pants.

Whether it is jewelry or simply accents on a dress it seems that pearls are making a pop in fall fashion.  It's all very Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O.

Menswear is always a fall staple and this fall is no exception.  Can't wait to see how the designers plan on changing it up this year.

Bright Plaid, Houndstooth, and Gingham
Along with menswear comes the classic prints of plaid, houndstooth, and gingham.  This year they are being refreshed with brighter colors and looks.

The pops of color that will be coming out are teal, berry, caramel, gunmetal, and navy.

Stay tuned to pictures of the new Fall Trends as well as ways to recreate the looks yourself.
